The story & meaning

Discover the timeless beauty of this handmade thangka, a masterpiece of spiritual art. Each line and color is a testament to the skill of the artist, with pigments crafted from natural minerals and plants. More than a decoration, it is a piece of living tradition, bringing peace and harmony into your space.

Details:

  • Outer Ring: The outermost layer is a circle filled with Tibetan script and decorative symbols in white, red, and gold.
  • Central Design: At the very center is a blue lotus-like symbol with gold details. This is surrounded by a square, multi-layered “palace” structure filled with incredibly fine, detailed patterns. The palace has four gates, each with a different color scheme, leading inward toward the central deity.
  • Color and Texture: The dominant colors are vibrant gold, deep blue, white, and rich red, all of which contrast beautifully with the dark background. The extensive use of fine gold lines and dots creates a rich, textured appearance that is characteristic of high-quality thangka painting.

Shipping & payment

Your thangka is shipped unframed, rolled in acid-free paper inside a rigid tube, with tracking. It usually leaves Kathmandu within 3–5 working days after payment clears; delivery takes 5–10 working days to most countries.

Payment is by direct bank transfer. After you place the order you will see our bank details. Use your order number as the reference and send us the receipt. Your piece is reserved for you in the meantime.

Care & hanging

Unroll gently at room temperature and let it rest flat under light weights for a day. Hang away from direct sunlight, heat and damp. Traditionally a thangka is mounted in silk brocade (we can do this for you before shipping), or it can be stretched and framed behind glass.

Never fold the painting, and avoid touching the painted surface or gold with bare fingers.

Are these real hand-painted thangkas?

Yes. Every thangka is painted entirely by hand on cotton canvas with mineral and natural pigments, following the traditional iconometric grid. Gold details are real gold. We never sell prints.

How long does a thangka take to paint?

Anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on size and detail. A 24K gold mandala can take a master painter hundreds of hours.

How is it shipped?

Unframed, rolled carefully in acid-free paper inside a rigid tube, with tracking. Most orders leave Kathmandu within 3–5 working days of payment clearing.

How do I pay?

At the moment by direct bank transfer. You will see our bank details as soon as you place the order, and we reserve the piece for you. Card and PayPal payments are coming soon.

How should I hang and care for it?

Keep it away from direct sunlight and damp. It can be mounted in traditional silk brocade (we can do this for you), stretched and framed behind glass, or hung simply as a scroll.
