The story & meaning
Bring spiritual clarity, karma purification, and sacred harmony into your meditation space with this hand-painted Vajrasattva Yab Yum thangka.
Masterfully painted by traditional Himalayan artisans in the Kathmandu Valley, this sacred thangka painting from Nepal depicts Vajrasattva (Dorje Sempa) in non-dual union with his consort, Dharmatshatvishvari. Together, they represent the ultimate integration of transcendent wisdom and compassionate action required for spiritual enlightenment.
-
Master Artisan Craftsmanship: 100% hand-painted following strict Himalayan iconography passed down through generations.
-
Pure 24K Gold & Natural Mineral Pigments: Rendered on prepared cotton canvas using vibrant stone pigments and radiant 24K gold leaf detailing.
-
Sacred Yab-Yum Symbolism: Features Vajrasattva holding the vajra (thunderbolt of skillful means) at his heart and the ghanta (bell of wisdom) at his hip.
-
Ideal for Sacred Spaces: Perfect centerpiece for meditation altars, home sanctuaries, yoga studios, or as a meaningful Tibetan Buddhist gift.
In Vajrayana Buddhism, Vajrasattva is revered as the supreme deity of purification, capable of cleansing negative karma, obscurations, and mental defilements.
The Yab-Yum (Father-Mother) posture signifies the indivisible union of skillful means (male energy) and profound wisdom (female energy). Displaying a vajrasattva thangka painting in your home or altar room is traditionally believed to radiate peaceful energy, clear spiritual obstacles, and inspire deep meditative focus.
Executed on hand-prepared organic cotton canvas using natural mineral stone pigments, gouache, and pure 24K gold leaf detailing. The central icon depicts Vajrasattva seated in full lotus posture on a multi-layered lotus throne, holding his sacred ritual tools in embrace with his consort. Surrounding the main figures are detailed celestial clouds, blooming lotus flora, and traditional aquatic offerings.

Shipping & payment
Your thangka is shipped unframed, rolled in acid-free paper inside a rigid tube, with tracking. It usually leaves Kathmandu within 3–5 working days after payment clears; delivery takes 5–10 working days to most countries.
Payment is by direct bank transfer. After you place the order you will see our bank details. Use your order number as the reference and send us the receipt. Your piece is reserved for you in the meantime.
Care & hanging
Unroll gently at room temperature and let it rest flat under light weights for a day. Hang away from direct sunlight, heat and damp. Traditionally a thangka is mounted in silk brocade (we can do this for you before shipping), or it can be stretched and framed behind glass.
Never fold the painting, and avoid touching the painted surface or gold with bare fingers.
The hands behind it
Preserved by tradition. Powered by women.
We work hand in hand with women from under-represented and economically marginalised communities in Lalitpur. Through Akum they learn, grow and create, becoming artists, earners and storytellers. When you bring home a piece, you are not just buying art; you are supporting livelihoods and keeping an ancient tradition alive.
