The story & meaning

This is a genuine, hand-painted thangka of Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light, created using traditional Tibetan/Nepali thangka painting techniques passed down through generations of master artists.

About the Deity:
Amitabha is seated gracefully in a lotus posture atop a fully bloomed lotus throne rising from tranquil waters. His hands rest in the meditation mudra (dhyana mudra), cradling an alms bowl in his lap, symbolizing boundless compassion, inner stillness, and the promise of rebirth in the Pure Land of Sukhavati. He is known especially for guiding devotees toward enlightenment and eternal peace, making this thangka a meaningful choice for meditation and devotional practice.

Artistic Details:

  • Deep red-hued body, a distinguishing mark of Amitabha, painted with fine gradient shading
  • Richly patterned monastic robes in gold, maroon, and olive tones with intricate floral motifs
  • Radiant golden aureole (halo) framed by a rainbow-striped nimbus
  • Surrounding peony blossoms in pink and orange, symbolizing beauty and enlightenment
  • Auspicious golden clouds and a warm sunset-toned sky background
  • The Seven/Eight Precious symbols displayed at the base among rocks and flowing water
  • Rich, vivid color palette using fine mineral and natural pigment-style paints

Craftsmanship:
Every line, shade, and symbol is hand-painted by skilled thangka artisans, following sacred iconographic proportions used in Himalayan Buddhist art for centuries. No two thangkas are exactly alike, making each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind spiritual artwork.

Great For:

  • Home altars and meditation spaces
  • Buddhist practitioners and collectors
  • Spiritual or housewarming gifts
  • Yoga studios, wellness centers, and healing spaces
  • Himalayan/Tibetan art enthusiasts

Payment is by direct bank transfer. After you place the order you will see our bank details. Use your order number as the reference and send us the receipt. Your piece is reserved for you in the meantime.

Care & hanging

Unroll gently at room temperature and let it rest flat under light weights for a day. Hang away from direct sunlight, heat and damp. Traditionally a thangka is mounted in silk brocade (we can do this for you before shipping), or it can be stretched and framed behind glass.

Never fold the painting, and avoid touching the painted surface or gold with bare fingers.

Are these real hand-painted thangkas?

Yes. Every thangka is painted entirely by hand on cotton canvas with mineral and natural pigments, following the traditional iconometric grid. Gold details are real gold. We never sell prints.

How long does a thangka take to paint?

Anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on size and detail. A 24K gold mandala can take a master painter hundreds of hours.

How is it shipped?

Unframed, rolled carefully in acid-free paper inside a rigid tube, with tracking. Most orders leave Kathmandu within 3–5 working days of payment clearing.

How do I pay?

At the moment by direct bank transfer. You will see our bank details as soon as you place the order, and we reserve the piece for you. Card and PayPal payments are coming soon.

How should I hang and care for it?

Keep it away from direct sunlight and damp. It can be mounted in traditional silk brocade (we can do this for you), stretched and framed behind glass, or hung simply as a scroll.
